EXHIBITION “LEVITATION”

From March 4 to 23, 2016

at Art gallery PUTTI, Riga

Conventional assumptions of “this is right” and “this is how it should be” have locked up dreams in a cage. In present adult world dreams appear mostly only at nights. During daytime the mind does not allow itself to let go, as it is grounded by stereotypes, stress and the chaos of thoughts.
“Levitation” by Elita Patmalniece is a sort of modern mandala – a woman flying above a 21st century metropolis. She is free above the commonness and and merchandises of nowadays cultural lifestyle. Closer to herself and the corners of her consciousness that she has never explored. A wall in Art gallery Putti is covered with this monochromatic drawing and each of the exhibition visitors can contribute to bringing the colours into the drawing by picking up the paint and brushes that lay beside and allowing the hand to lead itself. It is a chance to be in the moment in an impulsive and fascinating way – let individual energy interflow with others and become a part of artistic creation process.
At the same time this is also the first interactive exhibition by Elita Patmalniece, the art piece that will be created by the exhibition visitors will continue its life in other creative manifestations – dresses, plates, interior objects etc., representing the idea of creative energy’s continuous flow and never-ending transformation.
“Drawing, colouring and painting can lead to a sort of meditative state that help us rise above the everyday monotony, discover new horizons and clear the mind,” tells Elita.

*levitation (from Latin levitas – ‘lightness’) is the process by which a person or an object is held aloft, without mechanical support, in a stable position. Levitation is possible only in the case of a fully mastered concentration and proper breathing skill that allows controlling the world’s vital energy.
